Over 20 youths participated in the Lewis County Lions Baseball Camp held this past Saturday, February 16, at the Lewis Co. High School.
Head Baseball Coach Sammy Holder and his coaching staff of Walt Taylor, John Liles, Bret Wampler and Ryan Bentley assisted the youths along with current LCHS baseball players.
Boys and girls from ages four to 12 years old learned the fundamentals of hitting, throwing, baserunning and defense. Coaches also provided individual instruction to youth catchers at the camp.
"This is a great opportunity for us as a coaching staff. We're just want to give these kids a good foundation and hopefully get them fired up about baseball and their upcoming season," stated Coach Sammy Holder.
Coach John Liles mentioned that the players' enthusiasm was contagious,
We really enjoyed coaching these ballplayers. They had a great attitude and were a lot of fun to work with.
Coach Holder and his staff plan on making the camp an annual event.
Lewis County High School baseball players volunteered their time and made sure every camper had plenty of attention and encouragement.
Players attending the camp included Garrett Applegate, Adam Montgomery, Wyatt Yates, Brycen Dummitt, Kaysen Roberts, Seth Wright, Caden Box, David Grayson and Sam O'Keefe.
Opening Day for the LCHS baseball team is Monday, March 18, when the Lions host the Fleming County Panthers.
